Monday was a beautiful day in Springfield! I was able to visit 5 of our 10 teams. This year we are mainly working with charities.
Teams 2 and 4 are working with the Interfaith Hospitality Network. The men’s and women’s homes are catty-corner from each other at an intersection. They are painting the inside of the all the rooms and hallways, including the rooms where the guests stay. They are also painting the outside of their admin building.
Team 5 is working with Oesterlen Services for Youth. This organization works with youth who need more structure than a foster home. They teach the youth responsibility and caring by having them take care of plants and animals. Team 5 is clearing brush for a large field where they will eventually have horses that will be taken care of by the youth.
Team 7 is working with the Clark County Developmental Disabilities-Housing Connection. They have almost 50 homes and Team 7 is residing one of their homes that houses two residents. They had removed a dumpster full of all of the old siding when I arrived and were working on putting on all of the hardware for the new siding.
Team 10 is working with Springfield Promise who are working on the Fuller Community Garden. I spoke with one of the organizers and he said that the neighborhood the garden is in used to be a rough neighborhood and the garden had given a unique opportunity for local youth to come and work at the garden.
We then returned home, cleaned up, and headed over to Covenant Presbyterian Church for a dinner lovingly prepared by our awesome cook team! After dinner, the seniors plan and led worship on the theme of Jesus telling us, “You are the light of the world.” It was a very cool worship service! Monday was a good day! And we’re off and running on Tuesday!
