Go & Serve – Day 1

June 11, 2018

Go & Serve 2018 launched from Knox at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 10.  After worship and a commissioning by Pastor Cindy to be the hands and feet of Christ to the people of Alma, our eight teams took off for Alma, with 62 youth and the adult leaders who had not already left early Sunday to prepare for our arrival.  We drove through a driving, heavy rain, until we got within about 20 miles of our destination, when it became sunny and beautiful.  Coincidence?

We arrived at Alma, unpacked ourselves (to LIVE BAGPIPE MUSIC!) and went to First Presbyterian Church, only 2 blocks from our dorm, for pizza graciously supplied by Alma College.  At the church, we were again charmed and greeted with Scottish hospitality, when two adorable Highland dancers generated thunderous applause and plenty of smiles with their historical dances.

Then it was back to campus for games led by our 12 intrepid young adults, followed by worship in the dramatic Alma College Chapel.  We prayed, we sang (led by Jack, Jenny, Wynant, and Taylor), we listened to messages from Amanda Hartley and Yours Truly, and memorized our Bible verse for the week.  “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you HOPE and a future.'” Jer. 29:11.

Then off to bed, with plans for a future week of fun, fellowship, productive work, and modeling Christ to those around us.
